Fall 2016

Hmmm, I seemed to have missed a summer post.  What happened?  Well, I was invited by Director of Music, Dr. Craig Scott Symons, to conduct a Gilbert & Sullivan summer sing at First Congregational Church of Greenwich in August.  That was an awful lot of fun, and friends from Troupers Light Opera and Blue Hill Troupe helped us out a lot.  Then in September, Charles and I went first north, to go to our niece's family to the Minnesota State Fair, and then south, to vacation in Florida and take a cruise to Cuba!

Cuba was fascinating.  They have a strong musical and choral tradition there, and we saw two professional a capella choirs there, one in Cienfuegos and one in Santiago.  Both excellent.  They sang not only Cuban and Latin music, but standard madrigal repertoire and American songbook numbers (both groups sang the same arrangement of "When I Fall in Love").

Rehearsals have now started for Blue Hill Troupe's 2016-2017 concert choir season.  It's a great program!  BHT is rehearsing "Pirates" right now, and will be doing "Yeomen" next year, so there's selections from both.  Broadway selections include numbers from BHT's upcoming spring show, "City of Angels", as well as classics like "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat".

And we'll see what other opportunities pop up this school year...
