Hmmm, I seem to have skipped winter entirely, as far as these posts go. I spent the winter working on this summer's Savoynet Performing Group production of The Pirates of Penzance at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, England. The show is cast and the director and I are busy preparing and firing each other emails across the Atlantic. As a warmup, I produced a concert "Pirates" at the local G&S Society on May 15th that went very well. A good practice run that showed me points in the score that need more attention... I now have an awesome follow-up project - I'll be music-directing Blue Hill Troupe's A Little Night Music this fall! This has been on my bucket list for years - it's actually my third production of this magical musical, but I've never MD'd it before. And it's a perfect show for the Troupe. We are back in the theater where I MD'd Mame in 2007, and it has an actual pit, which means I can conduct this tricky score front and center. Details to come - the show runs in Manhattan the two weekends before Thanksgiving. Other than that, I played a horn gig - an all-Beethoven concert at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich - which was a lot of fun. New repertoire to me, and playing some serious low horn, which I rarely do. |
